Composition of the secretariat
Secretary-General: Colin Vanelli, ISBDistinguished Chairs, Delegates, Advisors, and Guests,
My name is Colin Vanelli, and I am humbled to serve alongside Enrique as the co-Secretary-General of IASAS MUN 2017. A Senior at the International School Bangkok, I am particularly honored to soon welcome you all to Bangkok, to Thailand, and to the United Nations ESCAP venue. At such a defining time in our collective global story, I believe that there is no more appropriate setting in which to host this year’s conference. Having worked with UNAIDS for the past two years, I have seen first-hand the spectacular feats of diplomacy that occur daily within these grounds; I hope that with this experience, delegates can seize upon the remarkable tangibility of the United Nations to forge a truly unforgettable experience. My MUN journey began with my move to Bangkok in the 10th grade. To date, I’ve attended 10 MUN conferences, including IASAS 2015 (HRC) and 2016 (APEC). While a relatively new pursuit, my underlying passion for politics has been a constant in my ever-changing life, growing up between the United States, Senegal, Egypt, and Thailand. Initially charting the mistaken path of athleticism, since joining MUN both my time and social life have capitulated to the overwhelming rush that accompanies political and historical study. For the latter, I am particularly excited to debut the HJCC this year, exploring the fascinating personalities of the Cold War. Beyond these hallowed halls of diplomacy, I also serve as ISB’s Student Council Vice-President. I’m a keen artist, participating twice in CC Visual Arts, as well as in multiple theatrical productions since my Freshman year. You may also know me from CC Forensics, where I’m an Extemporaneous and Impromptu speaker. However, my most vaunted role is surely within my Dungeons & Dragons guild, where I take on the role of a tragically flawed dwarf ranger, hunting down bad guys from the intrepid tar-sands of Qin-Myglar to the calloused backwaters of Crook’s Haven. I also think the IB is a blast- sorry Enrique and Elisabeth! (Mr Buck: If you're reading this, I could really use a 7.) I am beyond excited for November, and wish everyone the very best in the run-up to this conference. |
Secretary-General: Enrique Chuidian, ISMHonorable Chairs, Distinguished Delegates, Teachers, Students, and Guests,
My name is Enrique Chuidian, and I am currently in 12th grade at International School Manila. I am honoured to serve alongside Colin as IASAS MUN 2017’s Co-Secretary-General. My passion for studying international relations began with my background. I was born in San Francisco, and grew up in Hong Kong and Hangzhou, before moving to Manila two years ago. Growing up in different cultures and seeing the world and its issues from different lenses has served as the foundation for my love of Model UN. I began doing MUN in 9th grade, because I was quite a precocious fourteen year old, so it seemed like a natural progression. Four years, eight conferences, and countless roasts, leaving me speechless at the podium have brought me to Bangkok for what will be my last, and hopefully the best, MUN conference of my high school career. Outside of MUN, I also serve as ISM's Student Body President. I am an avid performer, singing with ISM’s show choir, acting in the high school play, and performing in ISM’s annual Battle of the Bands. Other than that, my hobbies include playing rugby (albeit badly), watching the Great British Bake Off, and complaining about the IB. I look forward to meeting everyone in November, and wish everyone the best in their preparations. |
Deputy Secretary-General: Elisabeth Cajurao, ISmHonorable Chairs and Esteemed Delegates,
My name is Elisabeth Cajurao, a Junior at the International School of Manila, and I will be the Deputy Secretary General for this year’s IASAS MUN. I am half Filipino and half Swiss, but I was born and raised in the Philippines and have lived there my entire life. That being said, growing up I was exposed to a lot of the social issues that plague the Philippines such as poverty, lack of education and lack of sanitation etc. This exposure is what prompted me to begin my career in MUN as I wanted to gain a more global perspective on these issues. I started my Freshman year and after a lot of practice and dedication, IASAS 2017 will be my sixth conference. Aside from MUN, I am also the Co-Vice President of the Philippine Culture Club at ISM as well as the Treasurer for the French Honor Society. When I’m not doing MUN you can find me dancing, playing Badminton, watching Rick and Morty or, most of the time, whining about the IB! I also enjoy reading and my favorite novel is Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov but my favorite author is the legendary Gabo (Gabriel Garcia Marquez). I cannot wait to meet all of you this November! |
